IVAN FRANK, Ph.D.

 

Dr. Ivan C. Frank is a noted American educator and expert on high-risk youth. He has taught History, Philosophy, and Education courses in high schools, colleges, universities, and youth centers in the United States and Israel for over forty years. He was a Fulbright Fellow in the summer of 1998, studying in Israel and Jordan. Following that period of scholarship, he led workshops for Social Studies teachers at the conventions of the National Council of Social Studies on Israeli and Jordanian history, their peace agreement, and their economic, social, and cultural relationships.

Although he is now retired, he has recently taught in emergency situations at Taylor Allderdice High School in Pittsburgh, which contains a strong program for gifted students, and for the Osher Program at the University of Pittsburgh. His Ph.D. is in the International Development Education Program from the University of Pittsburgh, and his M.A. is in Modern European History.

His previous books include Building Self-Esteem in At-Risk Youth (Praeger 1996), Children in Chaos (Praeger, 1992), and The Cycle of Learning (Harvard Kibbutz Studies Project, 1984).
